Yellow Movie Review : An Ardent Film on An Inspirational True Story
Yellow, directed by Mahesh Limaye, came out last week. After watching the film, I had an epiphany about two things. One, that Marathi cinema is on a roll with a peachy streak of films (read Fandry). And two, in India we make a flummoxing number of films with disabled characters. With the increasing number of such films, filmmakers are trying to approach them with calculated nuances and fresh fervor. Yellow is one such example, which cuts the tirades and manipulations, just tells a story instead, taking good care of the mainstream space it wants to dive in. Produced by Riteish Deshmukh and Uttung Thakur, Yellow gets the required unswerving support for it to look good and reach out to a large audience. Deshmukh, whose recent slate of stillborn films is doing a fairly good job as a Marathi producer, following up with this one after Balak Palak.

Hasee Toh Phasee Movie Review: Old Love New Bottle
Rom-com is a much maligned genre in Hindi cinema. Mainly cause of the fact that 99 percent of films we make are love stories. So to carve out a niche of a romantic comedy ( an alien concept borrowed heavily from Hollywood) is a tough task. I mean how does one differentiate it from the same thing? Right?
Wrong. Thanks to the Chopras and Johars of the world, we have a new genre that encompasses everything that dreamy Bollywood stands for and merges it with the new age (read imported) sensibilities of love and its myraiud definitions in the new age. Film Farm’s Marathi film ‘Narbachi Waadi’ to compete at the 12th PIFF
Narbachi Waadi, a Marathi comedy film from the banner of Film Farm Pvt. Ltd. has been officially selected to compete at the upcoming 12th Pune International Film Festival (PIFF). Narbachi Waadi is an adaption of the famous play “Shajjano Bagan” by Manoj Mitra. The movie stars Dilip Prabhavalkar, Manoj Joshi, Kishori Shahane and is directed by Aditya Sarpotdar. The movie will be screened under the Marathi Feature Film competition section. Only 7 movies have been selected in the Marathi feature competition. My Best Of Regional and World Cinema In 2013
Yet another hectic and eventful year at the movies comes to an end. Every year we see films which we love, hate, abhor, feel indifferent towards. And this year has been no indifferent.
As the year draws to an end, every film buff (including yours truly) loves making a compilation of films under various such categories (good films, bad films etc)
As a movie buff this year too was no different. There were some films, which made for pleasurable viewing while some films induced sheer boredom and made for a rather tedious viewing. Regional cinema (esp. Tamil and Malayalam films) in my opinion once again reiterated that they are churning out films which are different from the regular fares, yet makes for some good viewing while being commercially viable .
Besides there were a lot of foreign language films which made all the right noises amongst movie buffs and the film festival circuits.
So here goes my list of best films in the foreign films and regional cinema section.
Too many films and too little time has been the bane of every film buff. As always there were quite a few films I wanted to watch but could not due to various reasons. So in case you do not find a particular favourite of yours mentioned in this list, kindly excuse me. 🙂
