Before you even read this review, you perhaps want to know whether you should watch Ae Dil Hai Mushkil or not; and if the film is worth all the hype and expectations. Pink Movie Review: The Film Leaves the ‘Modern Society’ Red-faced
This has been an unusually long dry spell for an average Bollywood lover. Barring an intermittently funny Happy Bhag Jayegi, there has hardly been any film in the last month or so that has managed to register its presence in our minds – forget about leaving an impression. Midst of all the blues, comes director Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury’s Pink – a film with an odd title but an intriguing enough trailer to raise a few hopes. Rohit Dhawan is an interesting name for a Hindi film director. The man obviously gets his surname from his iconic father, David, but it is his first name which lends an aura of interest to this entire name business. Sultan Movie Review: This Calls for Giant Leaps of Faith and Your Unflinching Love for Salman
Ali Abbas Zafar’s ‘Sultan’ has all the trappings of an earth-shattering blockbuster and in all probability it will be one. Not just because it has the box-office demigod Salman Khan, the man who can right now earn 200 crores even by selling peanuts outside a theater, but also because it is a story of redemption, revival and fighting for one’s love – a potion that can be sold like hot cakes to Indian audiences. The fact that Sultan has Bollywood’s original bodybuilder Khan playing a wrestler at a tender age of 50 only adds to the aura and intrigue of the film. But alas, all that augurs well does not necessarily end well. Udta Punjab Movie Review: The High of Coming Out of a Theater Feeling Low
So, who was scared/wary of Udta Punjab and its supposedly ‘damaging content’?
When I saw the film today, midst all the surround sound and fury, this question kept coming to my mind every now and then – like how ‘hurt’ keeps coming back to haunt fragile Indian sentiments. Because an hour into the film and you realize that it has nothing, absolutely nothing that can damage the reputation of Punjab or the dwellers of that state. 2 Kapoors in 2 Weeks: How Bollywood ‘Hero’ is Undergoing a Quiet Revolution
Let’s admit it – we all secretly make fun of the quintessential Bollywood hero. Once the euphoria over their smashing dialogues, classic mannerisms and the routine song and dance settles down, we all relegate our heroes to dumb charades, comedy shows and ‘how-much-do-you-know-Bollywood’ quizzes. The Amitabhs, the Shahrukhs, the Salmans (the list can have at least a dozen more names) – they are all icons, etched in the memory and idiosyncrasy of generations of cinema lovers but they are ‘typical’ at the end of the day. Each different from one another but more of the same ‘hero’ we pay to watch on the big screen.
