Lakshmi Manchu Advocates for Women’s Right to Ask for What They Want

Renowned actress, producer, and philanthropist Lakshmi Manchu has sparked a vital conversation on gender equality and the women’s right to express their desires without fear of judgment or societal backlash. In her recent Instagram post, inspired by a social media viral story of a woman seeking a groom with specific qualifications and income bracket, Lakshmi addressed the prevalent mentality that confines women to fit into predefined roles and expectations set by society.

Lakshmi fearlessly questioned “When will women be allowed to voice their preferences without facing scrutiny or being labelled as unreasonable. She said in her video, “When are we going to get over this mentality that women should only fit into a man’s idea? We’re also human beings, with the same heart, same lungs, same kidneys….When are we going to make it okay for a woman to ask what she wants?”

She emphasized the need to break free from traditional gender norms. “It is a partnership of equals. We want to be with each other because we choose to be with each other,” She also highlighted some standard matrimonial ads placed by men seeking a bride where they have freely expressed their requirements and expectations from their partner, citing these ads, Lakshmi pertinently put, “If men can have their expectations from their partner, why can’t women have? “

The post received widespread support from Lakshmi’s actor friends, fans, media, influencers with actress Seerat Kapoor expressing gratitude for shedding light on the subject and Rakulpreet affirming the right of every individual to ask for what they want in life.  Seerat Kapoor said, “Thank you for drawing light to this subject. May many more heal and grow from the collective wisdom and enlightenment shared. More power and courage to you @lakshmimanchu.” Rakul Preet commented, “Woman power you said it !! Every human being has the right to ask for what they want in their life .. man or woman.. period”

Dhruva Movie Review: Two Different Sides of the Same Coin

Know your enemies and know yourself and you can fight a hundred battles without disaster- Sun Tzu

I am reminded of this quote after watching Surender Reddy’s latest Telugu film Dhruva and not just because the film actually even refers to the quote in its own way.  I have always believed that a real hero, a formidable one whom we can look up to is someone who has been really tested by an adversary worthy enough of his/her calibre. And this definitely applies to a hero in an action film, remove the antagonist or make him/her weak or not so worthy and there’s nothing so unique in having a dashing hero, even if the person is larger than life. Take any action film as an example and try to apply this principle, leaving aside exceptions I am sure majority of the films which really worked and stayed put in your minds definitely had a powerful antagonist as well. Continue reading “Dhruva Movie Review: Two Different Sides of the Same Coin”

Nannaku Prematho (2015) Movie Review: Bullshit Theory

Nannaku Prematho is the 25th movie of its lead actor NTR Jr, the film begins with the title cards of his films and then opens with an action scene which is mandatory of sorts for Telugu cinema. The first 15 minutes of most Telugu films unfailingly show the hero in slow motion, his shoes, introductory song which always sounds like Deepak Chopra’s sermons.Continue reading “Nannaku Prematho (2015) Movie Review: Bullshit Theory”

Nannaku Prematho Movie Review: A Revenge Tale with Some Spunk, Style and Science

Growing up as a child I used to be quite fond of films with revenge as its theme, perhaps due to the fact that such films would be high on action. Well those were the days when most boys would be into action films and I was no exception to it. Most actors playing heroes have acted in revenge subjects, some of them in multiple revenge films as well. In particular I liked stories where the underdog has to fight back and claw his way towards becoming equipped enough to tackle his powerful adversary, perhaps making the connect all the more better. Telugu cinema is no exception to this phenomenon and heroes of every generation have been part of such films. Over a period of course the fatigue factor began to set in, both among the audience and filmmakers. After all how long can you dish out the same thing again and again? But as long as you managed to convey the tale with some novelty, the audience continues to be receptive; no wonder films like Ghajini, Vikramarkudu or Eega have succeeded.Continue reading “Nannaku Prematho Movie Review: A Revenge Tale with Some Spunk, Style and Science”

Kick 2 Movie Review: This ‘Kick’ Provides No ‘Comfort’

One of the hallmarks of a mass masala movie is having a hero who is brave, quick witted and totally endearing to the audience. So in 2009 when director Surender Reddy and Ravi Teja joined hands together for Kick, what emerged as a result was a complete entertainer, taking full advantage of Ravi Teja’s versatility. Kick went on to be remade in various languages, the most popular of them being the Hindi version of the same name, which released last year. Hence it was quite an event to look forward to, when the announcement of the sequel, Kick 2 was done last year. While Surender Reddy, writer Vakkantham Vamsi and actor Ravi Teja were signed on for the sequel as well, actor Nandamuri Kalyan Ram stepped in as producer, in place of R.R.Venkat who made the original. Through his banner N.T.R.Arts, Kalyan Ram has been producing films for the last several years, but this is the first time that he has produced a film which doesn’t feature him in the lead.Continue reading “Kick 2 Movie Review: This ‘Kick’ Provides No ‘Comfort’”
