Bengal Tiger Movie Review: Roaring Start, Tiring Finish

Ravi Teja is probably one of the most entertaining actors in Indian Cinema and I can say this with a fair degree of conviction. What’s remarkable about him is the progress he has undertaken over the last 25 years or so that he has been in the Telugu film industry. Starting off as a character artiste, playing small characters in numerous films, while also being an assistant director it took him nearly a decade to graduate to and get accepted as the leading man. For someone who came into the industry without any Godfather his ascent to stardom has indeed been commendable, especially considering that unlike him nearly all the top actors in Telugu Cinema hail from a film family. Over the years Ravi Teja has strongly built up a fanbase, people who like him for his casual yet powerful dialogue delivery style, his terrific comic timing and overall for being a true entertainer. No wonder that he went on to earn the title “Mass Maharaja” with which he is being referred to of late. But in all his over enthusiasm to keep the audience entertained he has been doing a spate of formula films, with his track record at the box office going for a toss very often.Continue reading “Bengal Tiger Movie Review: Roaring Start, Tiring Finish”

Kick 2 Movie Review: This ‘Kick’ Provides No ‘Comfort’

One of the hallmarks of a mass masala movie is having a hero who is brave, quick witted and totally endearing to the audience. So in 2009 when director Surender Reddy and Ravi Teja joined hands together for Kick, what emerged as a result was a complete entertainer, taking full advantage of Ravi Teja’s versatility. Kick went on to be remade in various languages, the most popular of them being the Hindi version of the same name, which released last year. Hence it was quite an event to look forward to, when the announcement of the sequel, Kick 2 was done last year. While Surender Reddy, writer Vakkantham Vamsi and actor Ravi Teja were signed on for the sequel as well, actor Nandamuri Kalyan Ram stepped in as producer, in place of R.R.Venkat who made the original. Through his banner N.T.R.Arts, Kalyan Ram has been producing films for the last several years, but this is the first time that he has produced a film which doesn’t feature him in the lead.Continue reading “Kick 2 Movie Review: This ‘Kick’ Provides No ‘Comfort’”

Kick Movie Review: A GPL for its Viewers

Director: Sajid Nadiadwala
Rating: *

Now that I think about it, this is the perfect movie for Sajid Nadiadwala to make his directorial debut. What does a Bhai’s movie need anyways? Nothing except Bhai himself. The rest can be on auto pilot and his fans still won’t notice. The entertainment quotient of Bhai’s Eid releases has consistently fallen after the highs achieved by Wanted and has now comfortably settled down between I-can’t-believe-I-paid-for-this and I-paid-for-this-so-I-have-to-enjoy-this. Yet, the box office collections do not ebb. (Jai Ho was a badly publicized aberration) By the time you read this, the film will have already recovered its cost and before negative word of mouth spreads around, you will be hearing how after a 100 crore milestone, it’s set to conquer the 200 crore peak. Still reviewers like me labour on with hope that collective public opinion will change one day and good films will trounce bad films in the end.Continue reading “Kick Movie Review: A GPL for its Viewers”

Balupu: Trailer

Balupu 11x15 on_ 31st May 2013 Thandi & KaranIt’s no secret that Ravi Teja, the darling of the masses among Telugu film audience is going through a very rough patch of late. Kick: Cheeky enough to make it work

As someone who has been tracking and following Telugu Cinema for a long time now, its certainly disappointing to see the kind of films getting dished out from there these days. This is all the more appalling considering that even a few years ago there were a few good movies coming out every year. My definition of a good Telugu movie meant either a really interesting film which was unique & with a heart or even a good mainstream film which was meant to entertain us and did that perfectly without affecting our sensibilities. Devudu Chesina Manushulu-Sneak Peek

‘Mass Maharaja’ Ravi Teja hasn’t been having a very good time at the box office of late. After Mirapakaay none of his other films have really created any sensation as expected out of his films. Now Ravi Teja unites once again with one of his favorite directors Puri Jagannath to bring before us Devudu Chesina Manushulu. Ravi Teja and Puri Jagannath have earlier worked together in Itlu Sravani Subramaniam, Idiot, Amma Naana O Tamila Ammayi and Neninthe and this is their 5th film together. Talaash-Motion Poster

It seems finally Indian Cinema is catching up with the trend of digital poster aka Motion Poster. First it was YRF who unveiled the digital poster of Ek Tha Tiger, then it was Ravi Teja’s Telugu Film Nippu. When it comes to marketing films with innovation and difference, it has been Aamir Khan in the forefront.Continue reading “Talaash-Motion Poster”
