Following a Successful Festival Run, Ek Kadam-A Short Film Featuring Renuka Shahane and Rajesh Tailang is now Streaming

Renowned actors Renuka Shahane and Rajesh Tailang join forces in the highly anticipated short film “Ek Kadam,” directed by Rajeev Upadhyay. This poignant film explores the transformative journey of a housewife rediscovering her identity and independence.

Ek Kadam tells the story of Anuradha Solanki, a middle-aged housewife who has always depended on her husband, Mahendra, and never gone out alone. When Mahendra breaks his leg in an accident, Anuradha has to go out and take care of things herself. At first, she is very nervous and makes mistakes, leading to Mahendra scolding her. But as time goes on, Anuradha gains confidence and starts to find herself again.

Director Rajeev Upadhyay shared his experience of casting the lead roles: “As I wrote the script of Ek Kadam, I envisioned Renuka Shahane Ma’am as Anuradha. I texted her, shared the script, and she loved it, coming on board immediately. Rajesh sir also loved the script and joined soon after. I was ecstatic to have my first choices for the lead roles sooner than I imagined. Renuka mam and Rajesh sir turned into the characters of my film, bringing my vision to life. I am especially grateful to my producer, Amrita Dodani, for her unwavering support. Our film’s selection in various prestigious festivals and the awards we won were the icing on the cake.”

Renuka Shahane expressed her enthusiasm for the project, stating, “When I first read the script of Ek Kadam, I was deeply moved by Anuradha’s journey. It’s a powerful story about rediscovering oneself amidst adversity. Working with Rajeev and Rajesh was a wonderful experience, and I hope the film resonates with the audience as much as it did with me.”

Rajesh Tailang also shared his thoughts, “The script of ‘Ek Kadam’ immediately drew me in. The character of Mahendra is complex, and the dynamic between him and Anuradha is compelling. It was a pleasure to work with Renuka and Rajeev. I believe this film carries an important message about empowerment and self-discovery.”

Producer Amrita Dodani remarked, “Women are often oppressed in this male-dominated society. As a woman, I relate to this deeply. ‘Ek Kadam’ is our effort to encourage women to break out of patriarchy, no matter their age or circumstances.”

Ek Kadam has garnered acclaim at various film festivals, winning numerous awards- Official Selection at Chitra Bharti Film Festival 2020 where it won Best Film and Best Actor Female awards, 2nd Shaheed Mela Film Festival, Screened at Mumbai’s prestigious Kala Ghoda Festival 2020 and Mumbai Rang Mahotsav, Official Selection at the 3rd South Asian Short Film Festival and the South Asian Film Festival of America 2020, Official Selection at Banaras Film Festival and the 8th Delhi International Film Festival 2020, Official Selection at Mumba International Short Film Festival 2023.

20 Years of Hum Aapke Hain Koun..!: A Trip Down Memory Lane

Note- This is a personal take on HAHK on the occasion of its 20th Anniversary today (5th August, 2014) and not a typical review of the film.

Hum Aapke Hain Koun or HAHK as it is referred to popularly is an iconic movie in many ways. If I’m not mistaken the whole trend of referring to a movie’s title by its abbreviated form probably started with QSQT (Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak) before HAHK and DDLJ (Dilwale Dulhania Le Jaayenge) went on to make it look like it was something that the Indian movie audience was doing it for years together. By now it is already known to even small kids across the Country (yes even in those distant lands which probably do not even boast of a single cinema theatre even today) how Maine Pyar Kiya went on to revive the fortunes of Rajshri Productions, an age old production and distribution house which was almost on the verge of closing down due to dwindling fortunes.Continue reading “20 Years of Hum Aapke Hain Koun..!: A Trip Down Memory Lane”

Jackie 'MaushichiG@#$@' Shroff and his upcoming marathi film

Jackie Shroff has suddenly become a sensation on the internet with a hilarious video of his going viral yesterday. He has been trending on twitter and also a certain expletive used by him in the video. There is no point describing how outrageously funny it is. You just have to watch it to believe it! If you still haven’t seen the video here you go:-

On a slightly different note, Jackie Shroff is also playing a lead role in his second marathi film Hridaynath after Renuka Shahane‘s directorial debut Rita. This film set in the Konkan region is reportedly a story of how due to circumstances a school teacher turns into a gangster. Interesting for sure! Also, after having masterfully played a gangster in last year’s Tamil film Aaranya Kaandam, it would be interesting to know how he plays the role here. Aditya Pancholi will also be seen in a negative role here for his first marathi film. But what is worrying is that the other names behind the film are totally unknown. It is the first film of both the writer-director(Amar Gupte) and the producer(Nitesh Waghdhare). The poster of the film too looks quite ordinary with Urmila Matondkar in the middle which tells you that she would most probably dancing in an item number in the song.

But there are quite a few big names in the music of the film. Shankar Mahadevan, Adnan Sami and Sunidhi Chauhan have sung songs for the film composed by Santosh Mulekar who has been an arranger for A.R.Rahman.  Here’s a clipping of the song Tatya sung by Adnan Sami which describes Jackie’s character:-

Now, if the makers of Hridaynath are smart enough they should release the trailer of the film soon capitalising on the popularity of the above video. Till then, lets hope the movie has some innovative cuss words for Jackie’s character like the amazing ‘MaushiChiG#@$%’. 😀
