Filmistaan Movie Review: Entertainment packaged, smartly

Nitin Kakkar’s Filmistaan won the National Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi in 2012. That is an incredibly tall order for a film which finally finds a theatrical release, almost 2 years later. Riding on no significant star value, Filmistaan is one of the rare films which are a testament of heresy to the pervasive opinion about non-mainstream films. Yes, this is a ‘supposedly offbeat/arthouse’ film which is a comedy and a good one at that. That apart, it is also fresher than a million other trashy mainstream comedies we get to see. “Lajwanti” starring Sanghmitra Hitaishi selected for the 64th Berlin Film Festival

Lajwanti”, a Hindi folktale/love story (genre) film directed by Pushpendra Singh and starring upcoming actress Sanghmitra Hitaishi in the title role has been  selected for the ongoing 64th Berlin Film Festival.  Lajwanti is a film based on a folk tale by legendary Rajasthani writer Vijaydan Detha.

The film has been selected under the FORUM section of the film festival. Lajwanti is the only Hindi/Indian feature film along with Mani Kaul’s Ghasiram  Kotwal (old film)  be selected under this category this year. ‘Alia’s pinch of salt in ‘Highway’

Films capture journeys but in Imtiaz Ali‘s much-awaited ‘Highway’, the journey has made the film. Presented by Sajid Nadiadwala and starring Alia Bhatt and Randeep Hooda, the film traverses six states of north India and captures the landscape of the different regions as it goes along.
