The Best of Tamil Cinema in 2016

2016 was an interesting year for Tamil Cinema with a variety of topics being explored. Some big films didn’t do well, while some small films made impact. Certain stars did well,while some of them didn’t really do well. Here are the films in my opinion which stood a little apart from the rest of the pack and made an impact this year.The movies aren’t sorted in any order of merit. Sorting is done based on release dates.

In Conversation With Director Vamshi Paidipally: On Thozha/Oopiri and More

Vamshi Paidipally has been making Telugu films over the last few years, starting with Munna in 2007. Despite the not so great response to his first film he remained determined on his mission to be successful, as seen by the commercial success of his next 2 films, Brindavanam (2010) and Yevadu (2014). He is now ready with his latest venture, a bilingual film, Oopiri in Telugu and Thozha in Tamil, both of which release this Friday (25th March). Yevadu Telugu Film Trailer

Yevadu was supposed to be released in July 2013 but due to the political situation in Andhra Pradesh the release of the film was delayed.Though there were talks of the release date being shifted a couple of times, nothing was officially confirmed.Finally the film will release on 12th Jan 2014.Ram Charan‘s last hit was Naayak which was released on Sankranti period.  Dil Raju is the producer of the film whose last film Ramayya Vasthavayya was a flop. The film features Shruti Hassan and Amy Jackson in female lead roles. The film also has Allu Arjun and Kajal Aggrawal in cameo.
