Kahaani 2 Movie Review: Twist In The Tail

khaani2Early in 2012, when the trailer for Kahaani first showed up, the responses to it ranged from sceptical to intrigue, the former due to Sujoy Ghosh’s rather inconsistent track record till then, which consisted of the cult classic Jhankaar Beats, the rather off-kilter Home Delivery and the absolutely terrible Aladdin, and the latter responses were thanks to Vidya Balan, who was fresh off the success of The Dirty Picture. TE3N Movie Review: This Slow Paced Thriller Is An Underwhelming Affair

te3n-movie-poster-3You can be forgiven if you mistook TE3N to be a sequel to Kahaani, for there are several similarities shared by these films. The film not only reunites Vidya Balan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui, it also sees Sujoy Ghosh producing the film. Besides this, Suresh Nair and Ritesh Shah who had written the story, screenplay and dialogues for Kahaani, handle the same responsibilities for this film as well. Airlift Movie Review: The Film Leaves an Impact Without Much Fuss

There is an innate calmness and simplicity about Airlift. No matter how big the scale or how herculean the task at hand is, Airlift goes about its business with an extraordinary easiness. There is no patriotic chest thumping (may be a little bit towards the end), no heart wrenching portrayal of war and its associated grief, no screeching or shouting. Most of the frames in Airlift are fittingly raw (sometimes eerily ‘still’) and heartwarmingly subtle. And, this is the biggest win for director Raja Krishna Menon and his team. Lailaa O Lailaa Movie Review: A Spy Movie Which Fails to Thrill or Excite

Director Joshiy and superstar Mohanlal have worked together on various films over the years, some of them being memorable and still remembered. In recent times they have given us the popular thriller Run Baby Run (2012) and also a dud like Lokpal (2013). Co-incidentally Joshiy’s last 3 films including Lokpal have all been commercial disasters (the other 2 films being Salaam Kashmir-2013 and Avatharam-2014). With his latest film Lailaa O Lailaa bringing back the Run Baby Run pair of Mohanlal and Amala Paul once again, people hoped that it would emulate the success of the earlier film and not end up as a dud like Lokpal. Lailaa O Lailaa also has been in the news for the inclusion of popular Tamil actor Sathyaraj among the star cast and for popular Bollywood screenwriter Suresh Nair making his Malayalam debut as writer. Bang Bang Movie Review: Bang for the Buck? Not Quite!

When I first heard of Hollywood hit Knight and Day (2010) being officially adapted in Hindi as “Bang Bang” I just sighed in semi disbelief.  In my opinion Knight and Day was a rather ordinary Hollywood entertainer, which only worked due to the lovely lead pair comprising of Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz. Well to be honest their Indian counterparts, Hrithik Roshan and Katrina Kaif seemed to be perfect choices to carry on the same roles in Hindi, but I was wondering why a studio like Fox Star had to not just look at shelling out money to buy the remake rights, but also want to invest mega bucks in a film which has no novelty as such. Adding to the gloomy scenario was the fact that the film was to be directed by Siddharth Anand, someone who has had moderate success making romantic films (Salaam Namaste, Tara Rum Pum, Bachna Ae Haseeno, Anjaana Anjaani). Zanjeer Movie Review : Shamefulness abounds!

Apoorva Lakhia’s Zanjeer. This is one hell of an unintentionally hilarious film. Sample this.

Priyanka Chopra in Zanjeer 20131. Every time Ram Charan’s take on the iconic character of Vijay Khanna goes out to beat some goons, they orchestrate a BG of ‘Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram’. Satyagraha much?

2. Vijay gets nightmares of horsemen and people with ‘scary looking’ knives reminding him constantly of a dreaded incident earlier in his life. Some Bhaag Milkha Bhaag? Also, it turns out the ‘dreaded incident’ never involved any horsemen.

3. Priyanka Chopra’s Mala is a police witness in a murder who is given a lot of money to go out and shop when her life is in danger. Also, when does get out of the house, she suddenly discovers an accent, considering she is coming from USA. Not only that, Vijay, who told her to shop, apparently freaks out at her roaming around free.
