La La Land (2016) Movie Review: Makes you go “La La” all the way

Makes you go “La La” all the way

Written and directed by – Damien Chazelle

Starring – Ryan Gosling, Emma Stone

In the rapidly evolving medium of cinema, we sometimes find movies which looks more like a throwback to an earlier genre, and if it’s a landmark film, it will not just stick to being a tribute, but will revisit and mould the genre to fit with changing times. We had the timeless Chinatown (1974) revisiting film noir of the 50s, there was the Artist (2011) which was a modern ode to the Silent era of films. Now, we may have La La Land, a homage to the classic musicals of the 50s and 60s, made for the 21st century.Continue reading “La La Land (2016) Movie Review: Makes you go “La La” all the way”

Gangster Squad (2013) DVD Review

Gangster Squad PosterThe first time I heard of Gangster Squad was during the unfortunate Aurora Killings. The Place Beyond The Pines(2013) Review

Language : English | Running Time : 140 Minutes | Director : Derek Cianfrance

The cast has two of Hollywood’s finest young talents, Ryan Gosling and Bradley Cooper, acting in it and if that isn’t invitation enough, it is a Derek Cianfrance film. After the emotionally charged and gripping take on a young couple’s marriage on the rocks in Blue Valentine, Derek Cianfrance returns with a film with lofty ambitions, the ambitions that are required for an epic film, the kind of film that The Place Beyond The Pines would like to be known as.

The Place Beyond the Pines has three stories to tell. The first one is about Ryan Gosling, the second about Bradley Cooper and the third about their two kids. Derek Cianfrance links these stories together with one event, like you’ve come to expect by now. So many movies try to give a karmic connection, a poetic linkage and fail miserably and The Place Beyond The Pines comes close to falling in that time and tested pit but somehow scrapes itself off it thanks to the brilliance of the first two plots.Continue reading “The Place Beyond The Pines(2013) Review”
