Aati Rahengi Baharein – Music for the Soul Collection
In the group of legendary Indian film composers, Rahul Dev Burman stands apart. Even though it’s been two and a half decades since RD Burman (aka Pancham Da) passed away, his music continues to captivate the imagination of musicians and music enthusiasts to this day. He is remembered as the musical genius who had a unique style of composing music and inspiring many singers.
Gulzar, apart from being a prolific lyricist over the last 5 decades, is also a poet in his own right. And given his baritone, his poetry recital always make for an enchanting experience.
In this video, Gulzar recites two poems. One is his tribute to his long time collaborator Pancham and the second is Kitaab – an ode to books in this age of computers.
The occasion was an evening of celebration of the songs penned by the great lyricist over the years at Bandra Ampitheatre in Mumbai. Much to the delight of the audience, Gulzar dropped by himself. The crowd couldn’t let go of the opportunity and requested him to recite a few of his own poems. Gulzar saab willingly obliged, taking the evening to an altogether different level.
