As 2016 comes to a close, there are familiar rumblings in the Malayalam film world about new film releases with the distributors, producers and theatre owners slugging it out leading to no releases on a Christmas weekend! This is a familiar scenario for Malayalam cinema buffs but let’s hope this perennial bickering gives way to new releases waiting to hit the road, for an industry which has perked up a bit recently in the mainstream space. Mannar Mathai Speaking 2Ramji Rao Speaking (1989) is one of the all time best Malayalam comedy films and though an inspired film by itself, it went on to be remade successfully in Tamil (Arangetra Velai), Hindi (Hera Pheri ) and not so successfully in Telugu (Dhanalakshmi I Love You). Ramji Rao Speaking was directed by the dynamic duo Siddique-Lal and the film made the 3 main lead characters-Gopalakrishnan (Mukesh), Balakrishnan (Sai Kumar) and Mannar Mathai (Innocent) very popular.
