Badshahi Angti Movie Review: All that Glitters is not Gold

Satyajit Ray’s Feluda tales have by now gone on to attain legendary status. The detective stories have been adapted into telefilms, radio plays and of course feature films by both Satyajit Ray and his son Sandip Ray. In fact it is Sandip Ray who has probably adapted a majority of the stories in some form or the other. While Soumitra Chatterjee played Feluda in Satyajit Ray’s Sonar Kella and Joi Baba Felunath, the character was portrayed by Sabyasachi Chakrabarty in 6 films spanning from 2001 (Baksho Rahasya) to 2011 (Royal Bengal Rahashya). Even now I have vivid memories of Kissa Khatmandu Ka (part of Satyajit Ray Presents), teleseries on Doordarshan which was an adaptation of Joto Kando Khatmandu, featuring Shashi Kapoor as Feluda, Mohan Agashe as Jatayu and Utpal Dutt as Lal Meghraj. But with Sabyasachi already looking too aged for the iconic character and with the demise of Bibhu Bhattacharya who played Jatayu in the last 5 Feluda films, it looked like Sandip Ray had hit a roadblock.Continue reading “Badshahi Angti Movie Review: All that Glitters is not Gold”
