Azhar (2016) Movie Review: A Wasted Opportunity

There are always three sides to a story, your side, the other side and the truth. In a country like India, where sycophancy is the order of the day, our biographical films tend to be mostly works of hagiography. Then there is a need to add a love story even though it may be a fictional like one in Bhaag Milkha Bhaag.

Azhar starts with a disclaimer to the film saying this is not related to real life and is a fictionalized account. Why bother buying rights from the person in the first place then?

Fitoor Movie Review: No Love Here, Just Impossible Inanity

Ask me no questions and you will be told no lies. If you still want to know how this adaptation of Dickens’ Great Expectations is, well, you asked for it.

Fitoor spares nothing, and no one, as it annihilates anything and everything that was beautiful and sacred in the source novel and the milieu this adaptation is set in. Trailer of Bejoy Nambiar’s David

After Shaitan which met with mixed response, Bejoy Nambiar is back with his next film, David. Initially planned to be a trilingual, finally this has turned out to be a bilingual in Hindi and Tamil with a dubbed version in Telugu as well. David is apparently a gangster-comedy with Vikram featuring in both the Hindi and Tamil versions, his second Hindi movie after Raavan.

A Musical Tribute to Raj Kanwar

Prolific Hindi film writer-director-producer Raj Kanwar passed away recently ( 3rd February, 2012 ) in Singapore even before he could undergo a kidney transplant. He was just 53 and is survived by his wife and 2 sons. Raj Kanwar had started his career by assisting  filmmakers like Shekhar Kapur and Rajkumar Santoshi. His first film as director was Deewana which was a resounding success and from thereon it was a successful journey for Raj Kanwar and he went on to establish himself as a popular writer-director-producer churning out hit after hit. Though he did have odd failures like Kartavya, Itihaas, Dhai Akshar Prem Ke etc by and large his films did quite well commercially.
