Arabia aka Araby is a Brazilian film by Affonso Uchoa and Joao Dumans. In an old aluminium factory in Ouro Preto, a young man finds the diary of a worker who died in an accident. Reminiscent of the way Westerns use anonymous drifters, driven by survival instinct, as the story’s hero, Arábia focuses in on the life of a marginalised worker in contemporary Brazil. The film resents a series of short narratives about young quaint men who are struggling, and their concerned parents. Rey: Trailer
The second film from Niles Atallah, who lives and works in Santiago, Chile and holds duel US-Chilean citizenship, Rey is produced by Diluvio in Chile and Lucie Kalmar of Mômerade in France. The film also has co-production partners in Germany (unafilm), the Netherlands (Circe Films) and Qatar (Doha Film Institute) and tells the story of Orélie-Antoine de Tounens, an eccentric French explorer and lawyer who was proclaimed, or proclaimed himself “King of Araucanía and Patagonia” in the 19th century. Sexy Durga: Trailer
Sanal Kumar Sasidharan who has made Malayalam films like Oraalppokkam (2014) and Ozhivudivasathe Kali (2016), both of which have fetched Kerala State Awards is now in the news for his 3rd film, Sexy Durga. Winner of the Hivos Tiger Award at the prestigious International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) this year as well as the DI Award at the NFDC Film Bazaar, 2016. A thriller reflecting the chilling darkness in the society, the film was made without any screenplay and shot at night in Kerala.Featuring Rajshri Deshpande (earlier seen in Angry Indian Goddesses) in the lead, the film is produced by Aruna Mathew and Shaji Mathew.
