Haven’t you heard of men who during their college days and perhaps even much later led a wild, carefree life, only to give it all up and sober down post their wedding? Needless to say that not all of them change by choice, some do it due to fear, some due to necessity and some simply because they just do not have any choice. In fact the lives of these men pre and post wedding can be seen in total contrast of each other. Oh! Don’t worry this is not an article to talk of why not to get married, or to discuss the ill effects of doing so. After all one cannot generalize things on the basis of some case studies. First thing you notice about M.S. Dhoni – The Untold Story is its welcome decision to put out its title not just in English but also in chaste Hindi (The Untold Story becomes ‘Ek Ankahi Kahani’) and Urdu. It is quite strange and somewhat sad that most Hindi films these days do not bother to put up a title in Hindi, seeming to have forgotten that they are ‘Hindi’ films at first place.Continue reading “M.S. Dishoom: The Battle of the Beefcakes
This year a popular brand is introducing some new categories in their film awards and I thought I might help them with the finalists.
Best lead Actor in a static role: John Abraham for Dishoom- He manages to keep the same expression throughout the movie, a feat which not even accomplished actors like Naseer have been able to do. For this, he has even managed to get a lifetime award nomination competing strongly with Sunil Shetty. Moreover, his abs have started acting better though a similar feat was attempted by his bare bottom earlier. Dishoom Movie Review: Typical ‘Entertainer’ that Respects Your Time for a Change
Rohit Dhawan is an interesting name for a Hindi film director. The man obviously gets his surname from his iconic father, David, but it is his first name which lends an aura of interest to this entire name business. Azhar (2016) Movie Review: A Wasted Opportunity
There are always three sides to a story, your side, the other side and the truth. In a country like India, where sycophancy is the order of the day, our biographical films tend to be mostly works of hagiography. Then there is a need to add a love story even though it may be a fictional like one in Bhaag Milkha Bhaag.
Azhar starts with a disclaimer to the film saying this is not related to real life and is a fictionalized account. Why bother buying rights from the person in the first place then?

Million Dollar Arm (2014) Movie Review: Million Dollar Mush
Disney has a record of making the mushiest and sappy movies there exist. I believe they could even make Freddy Kruger look like a ‘misunderstood little boy” and Agent Smith as a lonely little orphaned virus. With movies like Glory Road, The Greatest Game Ever Played, Miracle, Remember the Titans, Angels in the Outfield, Mighty Ducks trilogy and a horde of others, Disney has a monopoly on family sports movies.
