Foxcatcher (2014) Movie Review: Wrestling with Madness

Cast: Steve Carell, Channing Tatum, Mark Ruffalo, Vanessa Redgrave
Directed by Bennett Miller
Distributed by Sony Pictures Classics
Screened at Dubai Film Festival 2014

The desire to be acknowledged is a darn powerful one. It applies to all; irrespective of one’s social strata.

In Bennett Miller’s Foxcatcher, we find that it is this desire that pushes gold medalist Olympic wrestler Mark Schultz (Channing Tatum) , who is scraping by to make a living, to instantly leave his older brother Dave (Mark Ruffalo) for a coaching stint offered by some rich dude.Continue reading “Foxcatcher (2014) Movie Review: Wrestling with Madness”

22 Jump Street (2014) Movie Review : An Enjoyable Follow Up

Much before Johnny Depp came to be known as a movie star who did a number of quirky and diverse roles, Depp found early fame as a TV star thanks to the hit series 21 Jump Street. The show also was one of the earliest successful TV shows for Fox studios. Given the immense popularity of the television show, the temptation to adapt it into a movie was hard to resist. And thus directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller (Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, The Lego Movie) came up with 21 Jump Street – the movie adaptation of the above mentioned TV Series starring Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill in the lead roles.Continue reading “22 Jump Street (2014) Movie Review : An Enjoyable Follow Up”

10 Most Anticipated Hollywood Movies Of 2014

Most Anticipated Movies Of 2014

Without wasting further time, let me write about the most anticipated movies of the year 2014.

22_jump_street_movie_poster_1Kindly note that this list is purely compiled on the basis of my personal choices and preferences.

10. 22 Jump Street : Co-Written by the multi-talented actor/writer Jonah ”Superbad, MoneyBall” Hill  he teams up once again with Channing ”G.I Joe”Tatum in 22 Jump Street. 22 Jump Street is a story of 2 undercover cops who are so good at being incapable that in the 1st film they had to let go of a criminal because they couldn’t read him his rights. The film which is directed by  Phil Lord and Chris Miller (Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs) is a sequel to the hilarious 21 Jump Street. This time they are going undercover in a local college, so expect some more funny one liners and insane gags.

9. A Million Ways to Die in the West : Written & directed by an absolute mental Seth”Family Guy, Ted” MacFarlene, this film promises to push the limits of  comedy which range from  gross to the most creative gags. See the fight scene between Mark Wahlberg and Ted in the movie Ted to know what am talking about. A Million Ways To Die In The West tells the  story of a cowardly farmer who seeks the help of a gunslinger’s wife to win back the woman who left him. It sounds serious but trust me it’s going to be madness and knowing Seth’s work it maybe something out of the box.Continue reading “10 Most Anticipated Hollywood Movies Of 2014”

The Best of Hollywood: 2013

2013 was a rather mixed affair for Hollywood movies. The summer releases this year were largely underwhelming (Iron man 3, Man Of Steel, Fast and Furious 6 amongst others) if you ask me. Only a few amongst such releases made for enjoyable big screen viewing such as Pacific Rim, Star Trek into Darkness.

However there were also some good  films which emerged out of Hollywood this year.  As always I was able to watch some of them, while a few still remain unseen. Without wasting further time, here is my list of the Hollywood films I loved watching this year.

Kindly note these films are not rated in any particular order.

And yes let the bouquets and brickbats follow 🙂Continue reading “The Best of Hollywood: 2013”

Side Effects Movie Review (2013): Power, Greed, Hatred and the finale

Language : English | Runtime : 106 Minutes | Director : Steven Soderbergh

At 50, Steven Soderbergh decided that making films for the big screen was too taxing for him. Hopefully, it is a sabbatical and nothing more. Sometimes, Soderbergh would do something extremely amateurish for a film maker whose style and technique is otherwise extremely good but before he takes his break, he makes a film that would have been a film that Hitchcock would have done in his time. Side Effects is apparently Soderbergh’s last film for the big screen. He will still continue making movies for TV but on the big screen, Side Effects might be the one we’ll remember as his last film.Continue reading “Side Effects Movie Review (2013): Power, Greed, Hatred and the finale”

White House Down: Trailer

Ronald Emmerich is back to what he does best, blowing up the World’s iconic structures after dabbling in literary world of English.White House Down directed by Ronald Emmerich features Channing Tatum and Jamie Foxx. The trailer begins with whats seems like TV report footage and a quote by former American President Abraham Lincoln “America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves”. Well to think Ronald will make a political Thriller with not much action is like thinking of Sooraj Barjatiya making a movie without songs.Continue reading “White House Down: Trailer”
