The Red Turtle (French: La Tortue rouge) is a 2016 French-Belgian-Japanese animated film directed by Dutch-British animator Michaël Dudok de Wit in his feature film debut. The film is a co-production between Wild Bunch and Studio Ghibli, and tells the story of a man who tries to escape from a deserted island and battles a giant turtle. Veteran British filmmaker Ken Loach‘s latest film I,Daniel Blake has just won the Palme d’Or at Cannes. Written by his frequent collaborator Paul Laverty, the film is a joint British, French and Belgium co-production.
Synopsis- Daniel Blake (Dave Johns) is a 59-year-old joiner in the North-East of England who falls ill with heart disease and so applies for the out-of-work sickness benefit Employment and Support Allowance. While he endeavours to overcome the red tape involved in getting this assistance, he meets single mother Katie (Hayley Squires) who, in order to escape a homeless persons’ hostel, must take up residence in a flat 300 miles (480 km) away.
