Right of the bat and this is one of the times that phrase is perfectly appropriate, Dhoni is a legend among men, I’m not a fan-boy nor some Dhoni-bhakt, but an avid sports fan and I can differentiate between the good, the bad, and the ugly in sports and Dhoni is definitely the good.Continue reading “M.S.Dhoni The Untold Story Movie Review: Dhoni’s Untold Story….Remains Untold!”

M.S. Dhoni-The Untold Story Movie Review: Excruciatingly Long but a Safe, Well-made Biopic
First thing you notice about M.S. Dhoni – The Untold Story is its welcome decision to put out its title not just in English but also in chaste Hindi (The Untold Story becomes ‘Ek Ankahi Kahani’) and Urdu. It is quite strange and somewhat sad that most Hindi films these days do not bother to put up a title in Hindi, seeming to have forgotten that they are ‘Hindi’ films at first place.Continue reading “M.S. The Avatars of the Stalker
There’s a thin line between being in love and being obsessed – earnestly confessing your feelings for someone and coercing someone to reciprocate to your feelings. Writers, filmmakers and other artists have been universally enamoured by the psyche of the “stalker” – the innocuous or fiendish guy or girl who pursues the person he or she is in love with. A love that borders on obsessive compulsive disorder.
Let us not confuse the stalker with the villain – the stalker doesn’t tease, pass malicious comments or try to molest / abuse / rape his beloved. On the contrary, the stalker goes all out just to convince the profundity of his or her love. In most cases, these characters are showered with sympathy – a feeling that would never arise in a real life scenario. Perhaps, just to neutralise the same, the stalkers are also meted out a tragic destiny, to highlight the dismal eventuality of such obsession or for creative justification.
The portrayal of the obsessed lover has varied, not necessarily commensurate with the change in the social milieu, but definitely in a way that could play to the gallery. In this post, I look at six films, which have glorified the stalker – the silent lover whose mania gradually overpowers the love, transgressing into the other’s person life, and eventually bringing both of them down. However, I have ignored any film (read the “Sleeping with the Enemy” remakes and the likes) in which the victim and her tormentor have a shared past.Continue reading “The Avatars of the Stalker”
Ladies we Loved & Lost
‘Lost’ is a hyperbole. None of them have passed away. But we certainly lost them to a plethora of options available around us – options that are merely entertaining but are passed off as talent.
While the story holds true many deserving people in the Hindi film industry – actors and technicians alike – I just picked a few actresses who came into limelight during early 2000s. It was definitely the start of a change in Bollywood in terms of content and execution. The Kashyaps and Bharadwajs were beginning to find their ground and were looking for new faces as the old ones were too obsessed with their returns on investments.
Some of the fresh faces found lasted for more than a few films while others bit the dust too early. But sadly enough, none of them had the longevity in the industry, I thought they would. Here are my top 5 picks:Continue reading “Ladies we Loved & Lost”
