Re-presenting The Epic Characters in the Film Franchise, Baahubali

Rajamouli’s two-part epic film – Baahubali broke many-a-record in Indian film industry. So much is written and said about the film – its cast, storyline, special visual effects, settings, dialogue, music, costumes, stunts, and more than all about the amount spent on the movie and the records that they broke in box-office collections. The use of new technologies has no doubt enhanced the quality and the visual impact of the film. But what appears to have touched the hearts of the viewers the most is the art of narrating the story.  Millions of viewers queued up in the theatres to find satisfactory answer to the one question that agitated their minds since the release of the first part of Baahubali two years back. It is enough to view the film once to get the answer for the question, “Why did Kattappa kill Baahubali?”. Love and Hate in Baahubali

I read somewhere that the Baahubali (Bb) films will be hard to forget anytime soon. This is true for a number of reasons, both good and bad. One of the better reasons, in my opinion, is that the film’s director S.S. Rajamouli has got the attention of the “Non-South” through sheer force of will and some interesting creative choices. As advertising types like to say, Rajamouli has us by the eyeballs. Love them or hate them, the films tell a yarn, and do not apologize for how they tell it. And of course, while the rest of us have just gotten acquainted with the Telugu folklore genre thanks to its new, slick avatar, Rajamouli and his producers have laughed their way to the bank and back. It’s a great coup. Rajamouli and crew have been more than polite in thanking Dharma Productions for the worldwide reach of Bb, but they need thank nobody but themselves for the product. If you don’t see yourself as a lover (or promoter) of kitsch, you can still be moved by Bb to a point where you begin to question your aesthetic presuppositions. Breaking News: Deepika Padukone is now part of Baahubali: The Conclusion?

In a surprising development it has been learnt that Deepika Padukone is now part of the already huge team of S.S.Rajamouli‘s Baahubali: The Conclusion, the sequel to last year’s blockbuster, Baahubali: The Beginning. Already busy with the shoot of her first Hollywood film, xXx: The Return of Xander Cage, the 3rd film in the xXx franchise, Deepika is known to have shot for a couple of days recently in total secrecy for Baahubali: The Conclusion. While all the attention in the last few days regarding Deepika has been the discussion over whether she is disappointed at losing out the National Award (Best Actress) to Kangna Ranaut despite amazing performances in Piku and Bajirao Mastani, a little birdie tells us that Rajamouli was quite clear that the news of Deepika’s presence in the project was to be kept under wraps till a suitable opportune moment was to come across. Now that we know that Deepika is part of Baahubali: The Conclusion it becomes all the more clear that the project has just bigger in proposition, not just in Telugu and Tamil, but most importantly in the dubbed Hindi version.
