Radhe (2021) Movie Review: Old Wine in an Even Older Bottle

Some stars have made careers out of making “masala” entertainers, like Rajnikanth, Mithun, Akshay to some extent; and audiences don’t really care for reviews or others opinions on their movies, since they want to watch unadulterated entertainment. Our most wanted bhai’s movie, also falls in this category.

Raees vs Kaabil: Clash of the Titans?

Jan 25th was slated to be the battle of the stars- Shahrukh and Hrithik battling it out with Raees and Kaabil respectively. The swords were all out with both the parties battling it out with their PR machinery. Some even called it as a mentor-pupil battle. And it mattered for both the stars as their previous movies were almost a washout (Fan and Mohenjo Daro).Continue reading “Raees vs Kaabil: Clash of the Titans?”

Dishoom Movie Review: Sucker Punch

In the midst of all the offbeat plots covered by Bollywood in 2016, like Kapoor and Sons, Ki and Ka, Neerja, Udta Punjab etc, there are times when one ends up craving for some old school masala, although lately, it’s only the Khans who’ve managed to keep the genre alive, especially with Salman Khan’s Sultan ending up as a monster hit. So when the trailers of Dishoom showed up, they promised old school masala with a mix of maar dhaad action and some David Dhawan styled humor, but does Dishoom deliver on this promise?Continue reading “Dishoom Movie Review: Sucker Punch”

Kick Movie Review : Definitely Not A Kick In Your Guts

kickI took an additional day after watching Salman Khan’s Kick to consolidate my thoughts about the film before I put them down here for you. As a movie analyst, it is imperative that I do not let any predilection cloud my objective point of view about the film, nor should I project my immediate reaction of it without giving it a second thought. Having said that, we can all revel in the fact that ‘Bhai’ is back this Eid. Yes, and his latest offering is directed by his long time producer Sajid Nadiadwala who makes the jump with this film. Post the debacle of Jai Ho earlier this year, Salman went all out selling Kick to the world, shrugging complacency out of himself. Rightly so. He must not throwaway the super stardom he has worked so hard for, only due to one film. Mounted on an ominously large scale, Bhai fans (read Bhai-tards) looked forward to it with bated breath. Continue reading “Kick Movie Review : Definitely Not A Kick In Your Guts”

Kick Movie Review: A GPL for its Viewers

Director: Sajid Nadiadwala
Rating: *

Now that I think about it, this is the perfect movie for Sajid Nadiadwala to make his directorial debut. What does a Bhai’s movie need anyways? Nothing except Bhai himself. The rest can be on auto pilot and his fans still won’t notice. The entertainment quotient of Bhai’s Eid releases has consistently fallen after the highs achieved by Wanted and has now comfortably settled down between I-can’t-believe-I-paid-for-this and I-paid-for-this-so-I-have-to-enjoy-this. Yet, the box office collections do not ebb. (Jai Ho was a badly publicized aberration) By the time you read this, the film will have already recovered its cost and before negative word of mouth spreads around, you will be hearing how after a 100 crore milestone, it’s set to conquer the 200 crore peak. Still reviewers like me labour on with hope that collective public opinion will change one day and good films will trounce bad films in the end.Continue reading “Kick Movie Review: A GPL for its Viewers”

Once Upon Ay Time in Mumbai Dobaara Movie Review: Twice the monstrosity and pain of movie watching

OUTIMAWhen Once upon a time in Mumbaai became successful , there was little doubt that the film would see a sequel very soon given the fact that the film was allegedly based on the life and times of the dreaded gangster Dawood Ibrahim. Once Upon Ay Time In Mumbai Dobaara Movie Review: More like Akshay Kumar 'dobaara'

2BD_Once-Upon-a-Time-in-Mumbaai-AgainIn Once Upon Ay Time In Mumbai Dobaara, Emraan Hashmi grows into an Akshay Kumar. Yes. The brutish incoherence of the idea to make a sequel to the 2010’s punch-packed film, starring Ajay Devgn (as Haji Mastan) and Emraan Hashmi (as Dawood Ibrahim), giving yet another largely fictionalized account of the gangster’s life was enough to put you off, if not the waxy boring promos of the film. Next, you fallibly miscast Imran Khan in the role of an upcoming gangster, which they say is based on Abu Salem’s life? Really? Looking justifiably exasperated at being out of place, he looks like the millionaire who was forced to be a slumdog. OUATIMD did look like to be a monumental disappointment, to further milk the goodwill and success created by the earlier Devgn starrer. Credited with films like Taxi No 9211, OUATIM and The Dirty Picture, director Milan Luthria has been fairly prudish in creating some good work. In this half-assed attempt, he does misfire, albeit not as despicably as I expected him to. Yes, OUATIMD is NOT a terrible film, but then its a letdown to its predecessor.Continue reading “Once Upon Ay Time In Mumbai Dobaara Movie Review: More like Akshay Kumar 'dobaara'”

Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai Again: Trailer
