Niren Bhatt, who shot to fame with his much applauded tv show, Tarak Mehta ka Ulta Chasma and his first Gujarati film,Bey Yaar, is all geared up for his second script coming to life on the silver screen – Wrong Side Raju.
Bhatt who is a postgraduate in MTech and an MBA, left the security of his corporate job to pursue his passion for writing. The love for writing was cultivated through the early days under his maternal uncle. Bhatt shares, “I started as early as writing musical plays for my school and college, which won various awards at the local, state and national levels for both the script and the songs. Wrong Side Raju is a forthcoming Gujarati film directed by Mikhil Musale. The film is about a hit and run case. Produced jointly by CineMan Productions and Phantom Films, this marks Phantom’s entry into Gujarati cinema. The film stars Pratik Gandhi, Asif Basra, Kavi Shastri, Hetal Puniwala, Kimberley Louisa McBeath. Written by Mikhil Musale, Niren Bhatt and Karan Vyas, the film has music by Sachin-Jigar. Anjaan marks the coming together of writer, director and producer N.Lingusamy and popular actor Suriya for the first time. Produced jointly by UTV and Thirrupathi Brothers, Anjaan is written by Lingusamy and Brinda Sarathy. The film features an ensemble star cast which apart from Suriya includes Samantha Ruth Prabhu, Manoj Bajpai, Vidyut Jamwal, Soori, Dalip Tahil, Asif Basra, Murli Sharma etc. Chitrangada Singh and Maryam Zakaria feature in item numbers as well. Manjunath, a biopic written and directed by Sandeep Verma, is a film that has the least limelight amongst the slew of releases this past weekend. When I had seen the trailer of the film long back, I had immediately been intrigued by it as I had only heard scant bits of the original death case of Shanmughan Manjunath. The film looked like a good compensation for my callow overlook as I was growing up. I decided to watch it first thing amongst the multiple releases and was a little underwhelmed. With literally no buzz around it, a film can still do decently well at the Box Office if its made stunningly. While Manjunath is an honest biopic, it leaves a lot to desire. The story of Manjunath has now been translated into a motion picture directed by debutante film maker Sandeep A. Varma. Co-produced by ICOMO and NFDC, the film stars Divya Dutta, Seema Biswas & Yashpal Sharma in pivotal roles. The music of the film has been given by Indian rock-band Parikrama and the lyrics have been written by Rajneesh Bisht besides the director Sandeep A Varma. Janaki Vishwanathan who is best known for her National Award winning debut film Kutty (2001) in Tamil which focused on child labour. Her next film Kanavu Meipadda Vendum (2004) focused on Devadasis. She is now ready with her first Hindi film, Yeh Hai Bakrapur which is a social satire set in a rural background.
