Maheshinte Prathikaaram Movie Review: Simple yet Cheeky Slice of Life Tale

We all like to see tales of the underdog scoring a victory, don’t we? That’s practically why David vs Goliath is one of the tales that continues to see various interpretations even today. Of course not every such tale manages to hold your attention, or even impress you in any way. That’s where the power of a story teller, narrator and filmmaker comes into play. In particular I like tales focusing on an underdog where the setting is as close to reality as possible and where one identifies with the tale by itself or the characters or perhaps both. Fahadh Faasil is someone who has time and again proved his worth as an actor, pulling off diverse roles in various films with ease. He is easily one of the most versatile of the actors in India these days, especially among those playing the leading men. Cast him as a suave urbane character, or a simple down to earth man and he still sinks into the character easily.Continue reading “Maheshinte Prathikaaram Movie Review: Simple yet Cheeky Slice of Life Tale”

Iyobinte Pusthakam Movie Review: Amal Neerad Merges Style with Substance, Finally

Amal Neerad entered the Malayalam film industry with some amount of promise. After being a cinematographer in a few Hindi films, he turned to direction with the Malayalam film, Big B (2007). Big B had its share of supporters and critics alike and Amal hasn’t shied away from the fact that it wasn’t an original film. The film went on to redefine style as seen in Malayalam Cinema and appealed especially to fans of Mammootty. But with similar attempts in Sagar Alias Jacky Reloaded (2009-Mohanlal), Anwar (2010-Prithviraj) and an outlandish Bachelor Party (2012), it became an overkill and a lot of people including yours truly started getting disappointed. What was even worse was seeing more and more filmmakers adopting a similar approach and failing even more miserably (take for example Aashiq Abu with Gangster earlier this year). 22 Female Kottayam-Sneak Peek

Salt N’ Pepper was easily one of the better Malayalam films of 2011 and Aashiq Abu the director of the film emerged a trend setter of sorts. So naturally all eyes are on Aashiq’s next film which is curiously titled 22 Female Kottayam. Starring Fahad Fazil and Rima Kallingal in the lead, the promo and the songs so far makes us feel that this could be a film to watch out for. Written by Abhilash Kumar and Syam Pushkaran, the music is by Rex Vijayan and Bijibal while Shyju Khalid is the DOP and Vivek Harshan is the editor.

22 Female Kottayam tells the story of two friends Tessa Abraham and Cyril C Mathew, their love and relationship. Scheduled for release on 13th April, 2012 ( Vishu release ), lets see how the film eventually turns out.
