Edmonton Movie Club presents the Third Annual India Film Festival of Alberta (IFFA) in six different cities in Alberta in what is the largest Indian film festival in Canada. The film festival will be held on Edmonton – July 14 -16, Calgary – July 21 – 23, Fort McMurray – July 29, Cold Lake – July 30, Peace River – August 12, and Red Deer – August 17-18, 2017. After the grand success of the previous two editions of the film festival, the third year will continue it’s reputation to bring the finest Indian movies of 2016-2017.
IFFA features eleven award winning films in eight languages from India, and two from Canada. From cross-border and inter-religious love (Bishorjon, Bengali, 2017) to love during international terrorism (Take Off, Malayalam, 2017), from a family holiday that turns into a thriller (A Death in the Gunj, Hindi, 2016) to a family crisis that turns into a comedy (Ventilator, Hindi, 2016), from an exploration of gender and sexual issues (Lipstick Under My Burka, Hindi, 2017) to an examination of gender violence (Anatomy of Violence, English, 2016), IFFA showcases the best in Indian cinema.
The following are the other highlights of the festival:
- Festival inauguration by R.Madhavan, whose movie Vikram Vedha will be opening in the Festival in Calgary on July 21.
- Kaatru Veliyidai will be screened in Canadian air force base in Cold Lake on July 30
- Latest Malayalam hit, Thondimuthalum driksakshiyum will be running during the festival
- North American Premier of Newton starring Rajkumar Rao
