Director Chandrashekhar Reddy’s docu drama Fireflies In The Abyss talks about children working in coal mines in the Jaintia Hills region of Northeast India. The film follows the story of a 11 year old boy who attempts to escape the hellish world of these coal mines and get himself enrolled into a school.
The film was featured at the recently concluded Hot Docs documentary film festival in Toronto and was the only Indian documentary feature to have made the cut at this year’s edition of the festival.
Drishyam Films – the studio behind films such as Ankhon Dekhi, Masaan & Dhanak is releasing the film theatrically in India on July 1st. The studio had venture into distribution with Pawan Kumar’s recently released Kannada language thriller U Turn and Fireflies In The Abyss is the first documentary feature that will be released by them theatrically. The film’s music is composed by Cooper-Moore while Abhro Mukherjee has edited the film.
