Breaking News: Kanti Shah to replace Pahlaj Nihalani as CBFC Chairperson

In a shocking development it has been learnt that veteran film producer Pahlaj Nihalani who took over as the CBFC (Central Board of Film Certification) chairperson earlier this year, will be soon replaced by director Kanti Shah. What is surprising and shocking is that Kanti Shah (known for his films like Gunda, Loha, Kanti Shah Ke Angoor etc) is often acknowledged as the king of C grade Bollywod films, with an abundance of sex and double meaning dialogues being a staple constituent of his films. Ever since the CBFC was reconstituted earlier this year it has been hit by many controversies. Starting with complaints about only people part of or supporters of BJP being drafted into the board, we then had Pahlaj Nihalani come up with a list of words/terms which were deemed unacceptable in films.

With the entire film industry reacting strongly to this and a delegation even meeting the I&B minister Rajyavardhan Rathore to express their concerns at the moral policing measures being taken, some changes have been expected. Considering that even within the CBFC board there has been a lot of unrest, what with members like Ashoke Pandit and Dr.Chandraprakash Dwivedi openly expressing their displeasure over Pahlaj Nihalani’s alleged dictatorship, case in point being Chandraprakash Dwivedi’s letter to Nihalani over the edits recommended for NH 10. But none of this could have prepared us for the news of Kanti Shah being even considered as the replacement for Pahlaj Nihalani, so now this news is indeed going to shake the industry but Kanti Shah seems to be very unperturbed about the whole thing.

As per information heard from a reliable source (who prefers to remain anonymous for obvious reasons) Kanti Shah was more than open to the challenges lying ahead for the person taking up the role and that he feels this is a role that he can do justice to. And while we continue to remain surprised & shocked by the news, here is what Kanti Shah himself has to say about this development- “All along my filmmaking career I have had a great respect for the CBFC and it is due to some really impactful and visionary people at the helm of affairs over there in the past, that I have been able to make the kind of films that I have been believed in and got them released on time as well. Hence it would be a great challenge to accept the role at such a turbulent period, but it’s a challenge that I’m looking forward to.”

On being asked if this means we can expect the CBFC to be a lot more lenient especially with A rated films from here on, here is what Kanti Shah has to say- “well it’s too early to say anything now, first let the formal announcement be made and then let me assume charge. What I can assure you is that each film will receive due care and respect and decisions taken will be based after evaluating all the merit and demerits of the film in question.”

Now doesn’t this make us all look forward to a more liberal CBFC with such a colourful personal like Kanti Shah at the helm of affairs? Well you are not alone then as we at MAM would probably welcome such news as well. At this moment here’s wishing all of you a very Happy April Fool’s Day Ha Ha Ha: D!!!

P.S- The whole post is intended only as a April Fool’s Day joke and not to be taken seriously.

Oh boy! You guys sure did get me! I was as shocked as one would / should be if this was real. But in saying that, I wish this was true! Kanti Shah would still be a great alternative to Nihilism-ani.
