All those who are familiar with Malayalam Cinema will acknowledge the fact that writer-director (also producer and actor at times) Ranjith is one of the better writer-filmmakers around in the industry right now. He has somehow managed especially of late to walk the thin rope between commercial success and critical acclaim fairly easily. While his recent films like Indian Rupee and Spirit may not have exactly been as appreciated as his Palerimanikyam- Oru Pathirakolapathakathinte Katha and Pranchiyettan and the Saint, it’s important to note that both the films did do well commercially and also won a few awards as well. Ranjith now returns with Mammootty in the form of his latest offering- Kadal Kadannu Oru Maathukutty (KKOM from hereon).
Featuring an ensemble star cast which also includes names like Sekhar Menon, Nedumudi Venu, Siddique, Muthumani, Meera Nandan, Balachandra Menon, Tini Tom etc. The film also features Mohanlal and Dileep in cameos. Produced by August Cinema, the banner floated by Santosh Sivan, Prithviraj and Shaji Nadesan, KKOM features music by Shahabas Aman while Madhu Neelakandan is the DOP and Sandeep Nandakumar is the editor. KKOM is one of the Eid attractions and was originally slated to release on August 9th before getting preponed to August 7th to avoid a direct clash with Dulquer Salman‘s Neelakasham Pachakadal Chuvvana Bhoomi. But the incessant rains in Kerala have forced the release to now be shifted to 8th August. Mammootty plays the titular role of Maathukutty in the film. Here’s hoping the film once again brings cheers to fans of Ranjith and Mammootty.
